HomeMy WebLinkAbout[07a] Request to Purchase Vehicle 7(a) Council Agenda Item MEETING DATE: March 21, 2013 AGENDA ITEM: Public Works Director Report – Truck Request SUBMITTED BY: Terry Thene BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: The approved CIP includes funding for a street vehicle BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Public Works is requesting the purchase of a WT 2013 ½ ton Chevrolet 4 wheel Dr extended cab pickup truck. This truck would be used as the Public Works Directors vehicle; the current ¾ ton #25 would be used in the PW’S fleet. Currently when staff is short on vehicles the PW’s Director drives his personal truck to accommodate the work, this is approximately 2 months per year. This happens during maintenance activities and if there is maintenance or repair of a vehicle. There are six pickups in the PW’s fleet, truck # 27 is a 1987 and should only be used as needed. Staff has received a price from the state contract and from Schweiter’s Chevrolet. Schweiter’s Chevrolet was the best price at $29,591.00 including bed liner, back rack, strobe, tax and license. The state contract is closed and cannot be used. Schweiter’s has honored the state contract price. This truck would have a tool box, transfer of base radio from #25 and stickers. This truck would include a tow package, Whelen strobe lights, bed liner and tool box to fit the various tasks performed by staff. Trucks have a useful life of 5-7 years. This truck would be an addition to the current fleet. Staff will request ordering a truck through the state contract.
