Renee Symanietz The EDA has received a request for funding from Margy Hughes on behalf of the St. Joseph
Dale Wick Action Group relating to their hanging flower basket project. Please find attached a copy of the
request attached to this memo.

Doug Danielson Hughes is requesting $1,350 to support the purchase of additional brackets for basket hanging
Steve Frank and the purchase of a trailer for use by City staff caring for the hanging baskets.

Gary Osberg The brackets are needed as the Action Group made a decision to purchase twenty(20) more
Dale Wick baskets this year—bringing the total number of hanging baskets to fifty(50).
The EDA supported the project last year with a $1,000 contribution from the BFA fund. Last
year the request was tied into a BFA request relating to Closet to Closet.
Hughes will be attending the EDA meeting.
We have a balance of approximately$10,000 in our downtown revitalization line item. The
request as written doesn't qualify for a BFA grant. If funding participation is approved the
expense would have to be attributed to downtown revitalization. Other projects included in this
item were property acquisition for parking (long term project), environmental abatement, and
housing rehab/transitioning.
Action
Consideration of the request for funding is kindly requested.

The Downtown St.Joseph Hanging Flower Basket Project is underway. This year, the project will add 20
more baskets. (Total of 50 for 2013). This requires that we pL rchase 10 more brackets (as each bracket
holds 2 baskets). Sunset Manufacturing has produced these once again.
The cost of each bracket is $75 plus tax. Total approx.with tax will be $810
In addition, the project is purchasing a trailer.to carry the fertilized water and this cart will be towed by the
Gator tractor. This will allow the city to use the Gator during the day by removing the cart after the
watering is done. Last year, the Gator was only used to do the morning watering as the large tank that
holds the fertilized water sat on the back of the Gator. With the purchase of the trailer, the Gator can be
utilized all day for various project for the city.
The brackets as well as the trailer will become property of the city. (Just as the first brackets purchased
in 2012 became property of the city)
Total for the Trailer with tax will be : $538 ----_____-- --
I am requesting the EDA make a contributi of $1350 for the project.
The StJoseph Action Group has donated$1500 again this year to the project

any questions,
