HomeMy WebLinkAbout[06c] Gambling Report (4c) Council Agenda Item MEETING DATE: November 21, 2013 AGENDA ITEM: Gambling Report – Requested Action: Accept the 3rd Quarter Report SUBMITTED BY: Finance BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: None PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Gambling Premise permits were approved for the St. Joseph Lion’s, St. Joseph Jaycees, American Legion Post #328 and the Central MN Sexual Assault Center. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Per City Ordinance No. 62 each organization conducting lawful gambling within the City of St. Joseph is required to submit copies of their monthly state tax returns to City Hall on a quarterly and annual basis. Per review of the tax returns the organizations are sufficiently supporting the local community with their gambling proceeds. Examples of how the organizations are giving back to the community include the following items: Special Olympics St. Joseph Boy Scouts Military funerals Big Brothers/Big Sisters District 742 Schools High School State Tournaments St. Joseph Food Shelf Easter Party Sartell HS Graduation Party Tri School Graduation Party SJFD Rescue Mannequins Medical Expenses Archery Range Dollars for Scholars Great River Regional Library Flower Baskets – Streets Summer Bible School Joe Town Rocks Community CPR Class Kids Stop Cloverdale Park Gazebo St. Joseph Lab School Salvation Army All Saints Academy Catholic Charities St. Joseph Parish Resurrection Lutheran Church St. Joseph Action Group SJFD Equip/Calendars Handicap Playground Equip Street Barricades Required St. Joseph Community Organization Net Profits Donation Donations % Donated American Legion Post 328 $41,540.73 $4,154.07 $7,015.00 17% St. Joseph Lion's $18,010.27 $1,801.03 $ 4,262.48 79% St. Joseph Jaycees $27,622.94 $2,762.29 $12,966.81 47% Central MN Sexual Assault Center $(165.38) $(16.54) $ - 0% Notes: 1. Some organizations provided substantial donations to the St. Joseph community in other quarters. 2. The Sexual Assault Center provides services and training to police officers and community members of St. Joseph. No direct donation is provided by the Organization. The costs are reported in their operations. Gambling operations began in April 2012 at The Middy.
