BACKGROUND INFORMATION: PW’s purchased a Metro Tech 850 Line tracer in 1992. This
electronic equipment was 22 years old and has failed. This equipment was used to locate water mains,
water services and electrical lines within the City. Locating city lines is required by Gopher State One
Call(State) to prevent damage to infrastructure and safety of workers and residents. Staff request to

purchase a new RD 7000 utility and pipe locator for With the locator staff request the addition
of a Mini Duct Hunter, this is a 3/16"fiberglass rod that is 100' long. It has 18 gage solid copper wire that
can be pushed into plastic pipe and located. This would allow staff to locate plastic pipe where we did not

have the capability prior. The price of this Mini Duct Hunter is . The price is included in the
$4,470.00. I asked if there was any value in the old Metro Tech 850 and was told no.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: The cost is $4,470.00 of the $5,000.00 budgeted in the CIP
