Rick Schultz RE: Request for Funding: Carol Theisen—St.Joseph Action Group Councilors Steve Frank Bob Loso Background Renee Symanietz The EDA has received a request for funding from Carol Theisen on behalf of the St.Joseph Dale Wick Action Group relating to their hanging flower basket project. Please find the aforementioned request attached to this memo.Theisen will be present at the March 26, 2014 EDA meeting. EDA Doug Danielson Theisen is requesting a total of$1,500. Of that an estimated$1,207.97 would be used to Steve Frank purchase brackets(15 total)for hanging baskets.The remainder would constitute a'donation'to Larry Bosch the project. Gary Osberg Dale Wick The brackets would become the property of the City of St.Joseph. The St.Joseph Action Group is not a civic organization but a group of private citizens who advocate policy issues and projects. The brackets are needed as the Action Group made a decision to purchase thirty(30)more baskets this year—bringing the total number of hanging baskets to eighty(80). The EDA supported the project in 2012 with a$1,000 contribution. Last year the EDA supported the project with a$1,350 contribution from the downtown revitalization project line item. We have a balance of approximately$25,000 in our downtown revitalization line item.The request as written doesn't qualify for a BFA grant. If funding participation is approved the expense would have to be attributed to downtown revitalization. Other projects included in this item were property acquisition for parking(long term project), property purchase, environmental abatement, and housing rehab/transitioning. Theisen cmtjat17 @gmail.com To St. Joseph EDA Subject EDA Request The Downtown St. Joseph Hanging Flower Basket Project is underway. This year the project will add 30 baskets. This will complete the downtown project. Last year we did 51 and this year the 30 more. This requires 15 more brackets (as each bracket holds 2 baskets) Sunset Manufacturing has produced these once again. The cost of each bracket is $75.00 plus Tax. Total approx. with tax will be 1,207.97 Again the brackets will become property of the City. We are requesting the EDA make a contribution of 1500.00 the cost of the brackets and donation also to the project. We have had such great comments about thts project. We feel we are getting more people coming to St. Joseph to see these baskets and also do more business with the Businesses in St. Joseph. We have been approached by the Lake George committee on how this is done so it has been seen by many.
