The Board directed the development of potential tasks for an intern to undertake. I have
polled other office staff persons and contemplated needs/gaps in EDA service as a means
of developing potential tasks. They are as follows:
1. Downtown revitalization:
A. If community development major -find permanent home for Farmer's
Market in the Downtown.
B. If landscape architect grad student—create 3-D model(s)of future
downtown footprint/layouts/streetscapes.
C. If business or real estate related major—buy 117 West Main & 121 West
Main.
2. Active aging in place:
A. If sociology or community health major—evaluate the impact of aging
population in the City of St. Joseph(we have a very young average age
due to presence of students)and draft a report which includes best
practices for supporting active aging in place, and render a
recommendation as to whether or not a senior commission is needed in
St. Joseph to address active aging issues.
B. If GIS major or grad student—create a model which illustrates changing
demographic characteristics(historical to projected future)which can give
retail/service businesses key insight to future trends.
