PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION
: The City Council approved an Ordinance allowing golf carts within
the City and prohibited the use on County, State, and Federal Roads. The Ordinance was set to be
implemented in 2014.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
: Since the City of St. Joseph adopted the Golf Cart Ordinance,
Stearns County has also adopted one and allows for golf carts on certain roadways. The County
Ordinance requires an municipality opting to allow golf carts to submit a request to the County. Once
approved by the County Board, the City will be responsible for issuing the City and County license.
The County needs an official city council action that requests golf cart use on specific sections of county
road within city limits. As a reminder – 30 mph or less for posted speed limit and non-arterial roadways.
In St. Joseph, the road that would be excluded are CR 133, CASH 2(old) from Minnesota St North
towards St. Wendel and Minnesota Street W.
After action is taken by the City Council it will be forwarded to Jodi Teich and she will present to the
County Board of Commissioners.

REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION:
Request the Stearns County Engineer approve the use of golf
carts on County Roads with a posted speed limit of 30 MPH or less and roadways which are not classified
as arterial.
