HomeMy WebLinkAboutSummary LELS Contract Negotiations Summary of City and St. Joseph and LELS Labor Contract Negotiations The current labor contract expired on December 31, 2013. But, by operation of contract language and law, the contract has continued to remain in force and effect. There were 3 in-person negotiations and 3 mediation sessions between the City and LELS for a new labor contract and an exchange of numerous proposals collectively by the parties. The parties have reached a tentative agreement that is subject to approval by the City Council. A summary of the new labor contract includes the following changes to the current labor contract: Item Change General  Some clean-up of certain text that was incorrect, unclear, nonsensical or duplicative  Some change language to be more labor and employment technically appropriate Duration 2014 and 2015 Union Require employee to work both more than 14 hours and 67 days in a calendar year to Employee be in the union Grievance Require union to follow more formalities Procedure Overtime Clarify that pay is based on base hourly wage and Premium Pay Sick Leave Require illness or injury to necessitate an absence from work to be eligible Military Make leave eligibility more general Leave Health Employer contributions:  Insurance Family Year Premium H.S.A. 2014 $ 977.57/mo \[2%^\] $ 3,000.00 /year \[decrease 25%\] 2015 $ 997.12/mo \[2%^\] $ 2,000.00 / year \[decrease 33%\]  Single Year Premium H.S.A. 2014 $ 300.29/mo \[2%^\] $ 1,500.00 /year \[decrease 25%\] 2015 $ 306.29/mo \[2%^\] $ 1,000.00 / year \[decrease 33%\] Uniforms  Remove specific uniform items new employees get  Remove dry cleaning and vendor provisions  Remove specific items employees can use uniform allowance for Retirement Remove article addressing PERA contributions Wages General wage increases  2014: 2.5%  2015: 2.75%
