ARE YOU PREPARED FOR A SEWER BACKUP? Sanitary sewer line blockages are typically caused by roots, grease, or improper disposal of items. Tree roots can enter the sanitary sewer system at joints and cracks in the sewer service lines and mains. Grease can solidify in the sewer lines and restrict other waste from flowing through. The lines can be blocked by disposable diapers, paper towels, feminine hygiene products, washing machine lint, or similar items that might get flushed down the drain or toilet. The following items should be disposed of in your trash can, NOT in the sanitary sewer system:  Diapers  Feminine hygiene products  Dental floss  Rags or shop towels  Garage waste products: oil, grease, gasoline & an?freeze  Household waste: ashes, corrosives, glass, metals, paints, poisons or solvents  Yard waste such as sand, soil or mud If a sewer backup occurs on our property, the City request that you take the following steps:  Call the City immediately at 363-7201 during normal business hours, or 363-8250 a?er hours to report a back up. The City will help iden?fy the loca?on of the block- age. If the blockage is in the City’s main sewer line, the City will a?empt to clear the blockage.  If the blockage is determined to be in the individual ser- vice line, the property owner is responsible for schedul- ing and payment of service to clear such blockage.  No?fy your insurance agent of the backup.  Clean the en?re contaminated area in a safe manner. There are reputable companies in the area that are well versed in handling these situa?on.  Document the ac?ons taken (calls, contacts, costs) in response to the sewer backup.
