J OSEPH www.cityofstjoseph.com DATE: February 18, 2015 Administrator Judy Weyrens MEMO TO: Chairperson Wick St. Joseph Economic Development Authority Mayor Administrator Weyrens Rick Schultz FROM: Erin Speltz Councilors Matt Killam RE: Update on Farmer's Market Bob Loso Renee Symanietz Background Dale Wick For the past three weeks I have been facilitating discussions with involved members about the possibility of moving the Farmer's Market to a downtown location. My first step was to find out if there EDA is an interest in moving the market. To complete this task, I contacted each member of the Farmer's Doug Danielson Market Board via in person, email, or phone. The result was that about half of the nine members were Larry Bosch very interested in moving, and the other half were only interested if they were fully aware of all details Gary Osberg concerning the move. Rick Schultz Dale Wick On Monday February 9th, I attended the Farmer's Market Board meeting with the purpose of (1) gathering information for future research, (2) communicating comments and concerns in regards to the project to ensure everyone is on the same page and (3) to make clear what my role is in this process as facilitator and not an advocate. It was unanimously agreed that a vote was not in order until I am able to fully present the details of a new location. The Board also unanimously agreed that the sole location I should investigate is the area around Ash Street and the Police Department. I will be presenting additional information on the proposed location at the EDA meeting. Below is a list of relevant information I have collected for the project, or tasks I have completed or those that are in progress: • Gathered list of seven criteria that need to be met in order for the move to occur' • In progress are conversations about allowing the church and funeral home parking lots to be used for market customers • Counting street parking spots near the potential new location • Measured potential new location of City Council parking lot • Discussed possibility with Cynthia Smith-Strack about using City Hall restrooms for public use • Gathered generalization of what assistance the city/EDA can provide with the process2 Action: Discussion is kindly requested.
