Council Agenda Item
MEETING DATE: March 16, 2015
AGENDA ITEM: Surplus Property – Requested Action: Declare three seized vehicles as
surplus property allowing the same to be sold at an auction.
SUBMITTED BY: Police Department
BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: N/A
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Previously forfeited property declared surplus property.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The police department currently has three vehicles that have gone through the
forfeiture process and now belong to the city. These vehicles are not suitable for city use and the city now has the
option to sell these vehicles. The vehicles are a 1992 Chevrolet pickup, a 1998 Chevrolet Lumina and a 2000 Dodge
pickup. AMI auction has agreed to auction the vehicles for the city at a cost of $185 per vehicle if sold. Based on
the research I have done for the vehicles, that cost will be covered with no issue. The remaining funds get divided
between the city, the attorney’s office and the state. The funds given to the city will cover tow bills, some repairs
to the vehicles, a processing fee to the city and the rest will be put into the forfeiture fund.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: None to the city, unknown income at this time.

REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Declare the three above forfeited vehicles surplus property, allowing the same to
be sold as surplus property.
