HomeMy WebLinkAbout2014 [10] Oct 28 Saint Joseph Park Board Meeting October 28, 2014 6:00 p.m. St. Joseph City Hall Members Present: Marguerite Fogarty (Secretary), John Anderson(Chairman), Terry Thene (Staff Liaison), Andrew Deuhs, Jodi Keehr, Troy Goracke, Bob Loso (Councilor Liaison) Call to Order: 6:00 p.m. Approval of Minutes: Approved Approval of Agenda: Approved Liaison Reports: Terry Thene: Everything has been winterized. He has received several quotes for removing dead trees. One is favorable. The grading at Memorial Park is nearly complete. The landscape company has not come yet. Terry feels more trees should be planted and has a good bid for Maple Trees. He asked that some of the money set aside for trees be used there. Bob Loso: The City Council called in U.S. Aquatics to do a study on the proposed water feature. That meeting is set for November 5th Old Business: a. Klinefelter Bathroom Project A link was sent to the Board with plans. John does not have prices yet. John suggested we invite the public to a meeting in January to give suggestions as to what direction future park plans should go. That discussion may impact this Klinefelter project. John will try to get prices for the November meeting. b. Eagle Scout Project Ben Luder, a boy scout in St. Joe, attended the meeting to discuss his project. He asked what we would like mile markers to look like along the trail-ending at the trailhead. His plan is that signage would be stained wood with letters routered. John suggested he speak with Pete Theisman regarding any restrictions along the County section. Terry will continue to work with Ben to look at the trail, considering possibilities. They may also contact the businesses that will be promoted The Board is in agreement with continuing this project. c. Wobegon Trail Recommendation The City's share in this project would be $200,000. Sales tax money could be used. John made a motion to make a recommendation to the City Council to consider contributing $200,000 from sales tax revenue for this project. The motion was seconded. d. Public Input for Park Improvements The public will be invited to attend our January meeting to share ideas. Terry suggested that a sign be placed at Klinefelter to remain there for a few months to inform the public that the January meeting will be used to discuss this issue. New Business a. Pickleball in the Park This is a sport that has become very popular. John will share information with specifics of types of courts, etc. at our next meeting. b. Future of Rec. Program John recommended a subcommittee to form to examine partnerships with other agencies, for example: District 742, YMCA, to expand possibilities. John is going to check with Sharon. Jodi and Marguerite would be available to help. c. Emergency Call Boxes in Parks This was brought to John's attention by a parent in the community. Discussion was held and determined that other places that have had them are now removing them. Adjournment 7:00 p.m.
