Liaison Reports:
Terry Thene:
Everything has been winterized. He has received several quotes for removing dead trees. One is
favorable. The grading at Memorial Park is nearly complete. The landscape company has not
come yet. Terry feels more trees should be planted and has a good bid for Maple Trees. He asked
that some of the money set aside for trees be used there.
Bob Loso:
The City Council called in U.S. Aquatics to do a study on the proposed water feature. That
meeting is set for November 5th
Old Business:
a. Klinefelter Bathroom Project
A link was sent to the Board with plans. John does not have prices yet. John suggested
we invite the public to a meeting in January to give suggestions as to what direction
future park plans should go. That discussion may impact this Klinefelter project. John
will try to get prices for the November meeting.
b. Eagle Scout Project
Ben Luder, a boy scout in St. Joe, attended the meeting to discuss his project. He asked
what we would like mile markers to look like along the trail-ending at the trailhead. His
plan is that signage would be stained wood with letters routered. John suggested he speak
with Pete Theisman regarding any restrictions along the County section. Terry will
continue to work with Ben to look at the trail, considering possibilities. They may also
contact the businesses that will be promoted The Board is in agreement with continuing
this project.
c. Wobegon Trail Recommendation
The City's share in this project would be $200,000. Sales tax money could be used. John
made a motion to make a recommendation to the City Council to consider contributing
$200,000 from sales tax revenue for this project. The motion was seconded.
d. Public Input for Park Improvements
The public will be invited to attend our January meeting to share ideas. Terry suggested
that a sign be placed at Klinefelter to remain there for a few months to inform the public
that the January meeting will be used to discuss this issue.
New Business
a. Pickleball in the Park
This is a sport that has become very popular. John will share information with specifics
of types of courts, etc. at our next meeting.
b. Future of Rec. Program
John recommended a subcommittee to form to examine partnerships with other agencies,
for example: District 742, YMCA, to expand possibilities. John is going to check with
Sharon. Jodi and Marguerite would be available to help.
c. Emergency Call Boxes in Parks
This was brought to John's attention by a parent in the community. Discussion was held
and determined that other places that have had them are now removing them.
