ST. JOSEPH JOINT PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
March 8, 1976
Members present: Township - Erv Studer, Al Theisen, Nick Froehle, Joe Bechtold,
Bob Fulton; City - Ron Klein, Paul Brinkman, Bill Bruemmer, Ben Kremer; st. Ben's
representative - Mike Ryan. Ben Kremer chaired the meeting.
The secretary read the minutes of the February 9, 1976 meeting and they were
approved as read.
Ben Kremer mentioned that Hugo Weyrens said that the city planner would meet with
the City Council and the five man board on Wednesday, March 10 at 7:30 to discuss
the whole east end annexation area. He said that members of the Joint Planning
Commission were welcome to attend.
Ben said that nothing more has come up concerning Lyman Hull's "sawmill".
There was a brief discussion about the possibility of a dentist moving into the
east end across from Whispering Pines.
Two previous members of the J.P.C. recently resigned: Al Torborg ( townshi p) ,
replaced by Joe Bechtold, and Al Maleska (city), no replacement yet.
Since Al Torborg was the previous township P.C. chairman, the township members
elected a new chairman, Al Theisen. AI's campaign promise was to do a little
"house cleaning" on the files and old paperwork.
The discussion then turned to the recent rezoning of the Leonard and Roger Bechtold
property from Agricultural to Industrial. The members expressed some concern that
their recommendation (December 8, 1975) was overruled by the township board. They
felt they should have been consulted. This prompted two actions:
1) The J.P.C. instructed the secretary to ask the township clerk for copies
of the last 5-6 month's minutes and also a copy of the minutes for each
of the future meetings.
2) The, following passed unanimously: "The J.P.C. requests that the township
board pick one of its members to attend all future J.P.C. meetings (as
does one of the members of the City Council) and act as a liason between
the townshi p bo ard and the J. P . C . "
The final action for the night was to move the J.P.C. meeting time from 8:00 p.m.
on the second Monday, to 8:30 p.m. on the first Monday.
The meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Robert Fulton, Secretary
