ST. JOSEPH JOINT PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
April 5, 1976
Members present: City - Ron Klein, Bill Bruemmer, Paul Brinkman, Ben Kremer,
I Mrs. Kelly; Township - Al Theisen, Erv Studer, Joe Bechtold, Bob Fulton; Council
Representative - Hugo Weyrens. Al Theisen chaired the meeting.
The minutes of March 8, 1976 meeting were approved as read.
Mrs. Kelly confirmed the previous rumor that a dentist was coming to st. Joseph.
She said a dentist from Chicago was planning to locate on the corner across from
Whispering pines and that he plans to get in about January 1, 1977.
The Skelton petition for rezoning 23 acres from B-2 to R-l was brought before
the J.P.C. because it is within the two mile limit. No action was taken, but
the discussion centered on the reasons for rezoning and the appropriatness of
the land for residential--particulary because of a drainage problem. Also, the
property would be more valuable zoned as B-2 than as R-l.
Hugo Weyrens reported on the city planners meeting that was scheduled for March
10, and said that it had been postponed until the third or fourth week in April.
Also, he said that the "sawmill" petition is waiting for a report from the City
Engineer regarâing a possible new road to service the area.
Joe Bechtold reported on the planners meeting that was held in Richmond on March
19. He said that the general emphasis of the meeting was to keep agricultural
land zoned agricultural.
A general discussion about building on 10 acre lots then opened up, and some
I members expressed a concern that the regulation about 10 acre lots might be self-
defeating because it removes agricultrual land in such large "chunks". The mem-
bers also expressed concern about developers bidding up the price of farm land
so high that the farmers cannot afford to farm it any longer. There was a gen-
eral feeling that this whole question needs much more investigation.
The meeting adjourned at 9:40 p.m.
Respectfully,
Robert Fulton
Secretary
I
