ST. JOSEPH PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
June 7, 1976
The regular meeting of the st. Joseph, Minnesota Planning Commission was held I
at the City Hall on Monday, June 7, 1976. The meeting was called to order at
7:40 p.m. Present at the meeting were Chairman Ben Kremer; Commissioners Mrs.
Marlene Schroeder, Mrs. Robert Kelly, Ronald Klein, and Paul Brinkman; city
Council Representative Hugo Weyrens.
Minutes of the May 4, 1976 meeting were approved as read.
Mr. William Jones appeared before the Commission. He discussed plans to develop
sections of the present trailor court immediately north of Highway #52. The
court area, about 8.2 acres total, would eventually be developed in its entirety,
but the issue at the present time is the portion between Highway #52 and Elm
Street, and in particular the western most section of Date Street which cuts
through that area. Mr. Jones asked the Commissioners to consider the possibilty
of closing that section of Date Street. A lengthy discussion ensued, both in
regard to closing the street and to various aspects involved in a commercial
development in the present court area. It was noted that a main sanitary sewer
line runs under Date Street, and that access to the line would have to be re-
tained. with that provision in mind, the Commissioners were in favor of closing
the street should it be helpful for a good commercial development.
Mr. Weyrens reported that the City Council recently passed an excavation ordin-
ance which gaves the City some control over digging and refilling in City streets.
Mr. Weyrens also reported that the quarterly water bills are now being used for
brief communications to city property owners. The bills can be a handy vehicle I
for residents to be informed about various City issues, including ordinances -
for example, the ordinances dealing with parking.
Meeting adjourned at 9:20 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Paul Brinkman
Secretary
