ST. JOSEPH PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING
August 1, 1977
The st. Joseph Planning Commission met Monday, August 1, 1977. Members present: I
Ron Klein, Mike Husen, Ben Kremer, Mrs. Kelly and Marlene Schroeder.
1. Public Hearing of Bill Simon seeking special use permit. Citizens present:
Mr. and Mrs. Sal Schneider, Al Maleska, Dr. Robert Kelly, Roman Reber.
Mr. John Knapp, Attorney, was not able to be at the meeting. He had given
an opinion via telephone that a special use permit can not be granted because
the business operated by Simon Brothers does not qualify as a home occupa-
tion. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Simon left in haste. Discussion followed. Mr. and
Mrs. Schneider, Dr. Kelly, and Al Maleska expressed opposition to special
permit.
Letter submitted by st. Joseph Development Corporation requesting Planning
Commission to be cautious about granting variances and special use permits.
Mrs. Kelly made motion to recommend that the special use permit to Simon Bros.
to conduct business in R-2 be denied. Ron Klein seconded. Motion carried.
Mrs. Kelly moved hearing be adjourned. Ron Klein seconded.
2. Al Maleska asked about property abutting highway - would it eventually be
zoned commercial.
3. Minutes of previous meeting read. Mrs. Kelly made correction that all parti- I
cipants at public hearings must be named in minutes.
4. Mrs. Kelly reviewed the booklet Uniform Housing Code. She also read an
article which appeared in Minneapolis Tribune regarding zoning requirements
and finances for low cost housing in municipalities.
More building code booklets will be ordered so that each member of Planning
Commission will have a copy to review. The Commission decided to invite
Gary Muntifering, st. Cloud Housing Inspector, to speak at next Planning
Commission meeting - September 12, 1977.
5. Hearing on variance for VFW Building submitted by Williams Funeral Home will
be August 8, 1977 at 7:30 p.m. Board of Adjustment and Appeals.
Meeting adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
