Minutes of St. Joseph Planning Commission
Sept. 8, 1980

Phil Durkee.
Visitors: Carl Oberdorfer, Jerry Cyphers, Hugo Vleyrens, Mike Husen, Bill Pritchard,
Mike Hazen, Tom Jave~ovich, Bob Johnson, Jim Landwehr, Glenn Nielsen, Al Kapsner,
Leander Meyer, Joe Bettendorf.
Meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
A public hearing was opened to consider the recommending of a varie~ce to the
sign ordinance by Reinert Construction Company at Cloverdale Townhouses. Bill
Pritchard presented drawings of the proposed sign. Mike Hazen presented a
petition with 40 names of homeowners in the immediate area protesting the size
of the sign and requesting th~ sign size not exceed the ordinance specifications.
Phil Durkee moved that the Commission recommend to the City Council that a variance
be given with the following specifications: the interior dimensions not to exceed
6' x 2' and the sign to be raised 6" - 8" above the ground. The motion was
seconded and passed unanimously.
Al Kapsner and Leander Meyer presented plans for the purchase of land immediately
west of Klein's Shoe Shop with the intent of construction of an office building
for St. Joseph Mutual Insurance. They were informed that they would need to apply
for a parking variance.
Jim Landwehr informed the Commission that a new plat for Cloverdale Estates Town-
houses, 2nd Addition, was needed because of a requirement that a legal description
for each unit must be included in the plat.
A public hearing will be held for the new plat. S. Kathleen moved that the
Commission recommend to the City Council that approval be granted for a new
preliminary/final plat with legal descriptions.
Tom Javanovich and Joe Bettendorf presented the draft for the new subdivision
ordinance. The Commission reviewed the draft and discussed emendations.
The meeting was adjourned at 10:20 p.m.
