passed with the stipulation that the use be limited to his own business.
Mr. Fred Sandal of the A.P.O. appeared and gave an overall review of the
option available for use of the area located north of County Road 75 and
the Burlington Northern tracks. It was decided that the present committee
already in place would review the issue as part of the overall review of
the comprehensive plan and not treat it as a separate issue. It was also
agreed that the committee would give a complete outline of what has been
reviewed thus far and report to the Planning Commission at the next regular
meeting.
Rogel' Steichen was present and asked for an informal opinion regarding the
possibility of obtaining a permit to erect a single family dwelling which
would have access from an alley off of street. After review he was advised
that the ordinance forbid construction of any new residence in the downtown
business area.
Dave Hollander appeared and requested permission to erect a business sign to
advertise· his business. Total square footage would be 272 square foot and
illuminated. The sign would advertise three separate business which are lo-
cated at that location. The present ordinance permits only two. Dave was
advised that he would need a request for a variance.
The Committee then took up the matter of electing a new chairman and secre-
tary. A motion was made by Tom Nahan to nominate Hub Klein, seconded by
Sister Kathleen. Motion passed unanimously with Hub Klein abstaining but
accepting the position. Art Budde agreed to continue as acting secretary.
Ross Rieke agreed to explore the possibility to the city council appointing
an outside person to attend each meeting and take the minutes. The Planning
Commission also requested that the city council advertise for a person to
fill the one vacancy on the board.
Meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
