The Planning Commission is holding a special meeting to hear a Special Use request by Sunset
Manufacturing and owner Tom Skahen.
(
The project consists of a 78' x 45' light manufacturing and office building to be located on property
. recently purchase by the owner and adjacent to existing structures. In 1998, Sunset Manufacturing went
through a similar expansion which as approved by the Planning Commission and City Council. With the
revisions to the Zoning Ordinance, the construction of this facility is no longer permitted within the General
Business District, thus the need for a Special Use Permit.
Please see the enclosed site plan and building plan. Mr. Skahen will be at the meeting to answer any
questions you may have regarding the structure. The project meets all the setback requirements and the
requirements of a Special Use Permit. I'm recommending approval of a Special Use Permit for the
construction of this facility.
Also, this will be my final Planning Commission meeting. I have resigned as the ED A Director for the St.
Joseph Economic Development Authority and will be leaving the City on July 20th.
