FIRE BOARD MEETING
September 15, 1983
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the Fire Advisory Board of the city
and Town~hip of st. Joseph met in session on Thursday, September 15, 1983
at 8:00 p.m. in the City Clerk's office.
Members Present: Town representative, Joe Bechtold; City representative, Herman
Schneider; Fire Chief, Dick Taufen; City Clerk, Bob Johnson.
Minutes Presented: A motion was made by Bechtold seconded by Schneider to approve
the minutes of the May 4, 1983 meeting as presented.
Ayes: Bechtold, Schneider, Taufen.
Nayes: None Motion carried.
Quarterly Report: The quarterly financial report for April 1 to July 1, 1983 was
approved on motion by Bechtold seconded by Schneider.
Ayes: Bechtold, schneider, Taufen.
Nayes: None Motion carried.

- st. Wendel Township Fire Service: Fire protection to the south 18 sections of st.
Wendel Township was taken under consideration and review.
The following cost analysis was formulated and tentatively approved for
recommendation to the City Council and Township Board. Estimated costs of
providing fire protection to st. Wendel Township (south 18 sections):
1 ) To allocate $10,000 annually to reserve fire fund: $8,000 apportioned on
current assessed value basis by City of st. Joseph and st. Joseph Township.
2) $2,000 - st. Wendel Township share to reserve fund on basis of 5% of
yearly budget (estimate: 40,000 x 5% = $2,000.00).
3) st. Wendel (18 sections) to pay 25% of budget based on current assessed
value for the 18 sections. Example: 40,000 x 25% = $10,000.00. Asséssed
value apportionments are currently: City - 27.73%
st. Joe - 46.44%
st. Wendel- 25.83%
4) Equipment cost-share: (1976 assessed values) 20% for 18 sections of st.
Wendel Township. ($20,774.30) $20,000 payable over 10 years of contract =
$2,000 per year.
5) Total st. Wendel Township (18 sections) cost share (1984 estimate):
$10,000 (25% of estimated budget)
. 2,000 (5% - reserve or depreciation fund)
2,000 (1976 equipment cost share - $2,000 - 10 yrs.)
Total $14,000 Estimated 1984 cost share

Chiefs Convention: A motion was made by Schneider seconded by Bechtold to approve
Fire Chief's attendance at Chief's convention in Minneapolis on octòber 13,
14, and 15, 1983.
Aerial Truck Problem: Chief Taufen reported aerial truck unit has hydraulic leak.
A motion was mad~ by Bechtold seconded by Schneider to approve repair estimated
at $1,000 - $1,200.
Ayes: Bechtold, Schneider, Taufen.
Nayes: None Motion carried.
Training Class Refund: Chiéf Taufen reported State will refund fees paid for Voc.
Tech. training course taken by department members in April, 1982, in the amount
of $900.00.
Adjournment: On motion by Schneider seconded by Bechtold the meeting adjourned at
9:30 p.m.

Nayes: None Motion carried.
