FIRE BOARD MEETING
February 1, 1984
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the Fire Advisory Board of the
City and Township of st. Joseph met in session on Wednesday, February 1,
1984 at 8:00 p.m. in City Hall.
Members Present: Town representative, Joe Bechtold; City representative,
Herman Schneider; Fire Chief, Dick Taufen; Assistant Chief, Dave Theisen;
City Clerk, Bob Johnson.
Minutes Presented: A motion was made by Schneider seconded by Bechtold to
approve board minutes of the November 16, 1983 meeting as presented.
Ayes: Bechtold, schneider, Taufen.
Nayes: None Motion carried.
Quarterly Financial Report: The quarterly financial report for October 1,
1983 to January 1, 1984 was approved on motion by Schneider seconded by
Bechtold.
Ayes: Bechtold, Schneider, Taufen.
- Nayes: None Motion carried.
1984 Budget Presented: A motion was made by Bechtold seconded by schneider to
approve the 1984 budget as presented.
Ayes: Bechtold, Schneider, Taufen.
Nayes: None Motion carried.
others Present: st. Wendel Township delegation: Renee Salzer, Clerk; Linus
Yurcyk; Carl stich; Thomas Schoenfelder; Alfred Seifert.
Service Territory Change: Carl stich presented assessed value data of st.
Wendel properties proposed to receive fire protection from the City of
st. Joseph Community Fire Department. stich also presented a change in
service territory, indicating all properties serviced off County Road 4
and Township Road 107 would continue to receive protection from the
st. Stephen Fire Department.
Fire Board questioned the change in boundary line of service territory
originally agreed upon at an earlier meeting, and voiced disapproval of
the change.
Matter to be returned to st. Jos~ph Town Board and City Council for
reconsideration. Fire Department to place all township roads on plat
and re-examine proposed service territory.
Carl stich indicated about 20 people on County Road 4 wanted to stay with
st. Stephen. The st. Wendel delegation to inquire if the st. Stephen
department permits individual purchase of protection. New data and
information to be submitted by Carl stich.

Truck Service & Repairs: Fire Chief Dick Taufen reported service on fire
trucks has been completed as per agreement (Bean and Aerial[General]).
Additional parts for pump are expected soon. Problem with Hi-pressure
pump reported - getting only 625 lbs. pressure instead of 850.
Taufen also reported:
1) Ladder butt covers have been installed.
2) Drying tower ladder safety cage is in place.
3) Doors have been inspected and need replacement - estimate to
be obtained - automatic door openers to be installed on new
doors.
The above safety measures were completed as per recommendation from
League of cities self-insurance trust on W.C. (as required by OSHA).
The water tank leak on Bean truck has been repaired. Original tank
defect was the determination made.
Adjournment: The meeting adjourned at 10:10 p.m.
