Fire Board Meeting
February 5, 1986
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof the Fire Advisory Board of the City
and TOwnsh~p of st. Joseph met in session on Wednesday, February 5, 1986,
at 8:00p.m. in City Hall Annex.
Members Present: Town representative, Joe Bechtold; City representative, Leo Sadlo;
Fire Chief, Dick Taufen; City Clerk, Bob Johnson.
Minutes: Minutes of the November 6, 1985 meeting were approved on motion by Sadlo
seconded by Bechtold.
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None Motion carried.
Quarterly Financial Report: Presented, reviewed and approved on motion by Bechtold
seconded by Sadlo.
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None Motion carried.
Pager Use: A motion was made by Bechtold seconded by Sadlo to charge loss of Fire
Department pager at 50% of deductible ($50.00) to user.
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None Motion carried.
Fire Chief Report: (1) Chief Dick Taufen reported fire trucks on service contract
have been serviced by the Duluth Firm. All seals have been repaired.
(2 ) st. Wendel, south half, now covered by service from the department,
effective January 1, 1986.
(3 ) 383 property owners are listed in new service area.
(4 ) Fire convention - North Mankato - June, 1986. On motion by Sadlo seconded
by Bechtold the board approved attendance for two fire department personnel.
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None Motion carried.
( 5) The department has responded to 20 calls to date.
(6 ) Training program: a) within 2 years all new personnel must complete
firefighter I training.
b) CIM and EMT refresher courses have been approved as
part of training program. Chief to keep board informed.
st. Joseph Town-City Contract: Representative Bechtold reminded board ó'f contract
expiration, st. Joseph Town-City contract, on July 1, 1986. Matter to be reviewed
again at next meeting on May 7, 1986.
Pension Fund Matter: The Firefighters Relief Association (state mandated) three-schedule
report of accrued liability funding for 1986, submitted to the City in May, 1985,
indicating no municipal financial support is required, has been updated. The

amount of support required, $9,209.83, will be reviewed after the 1987 accrued
liability funding schedules have been received from the relief association by
the due date of August 1, 1986. This recommendation has full support of the
Fire Advisory Board, on motion by Sadlo, seconded by Bechtold.

Nayes: None Motion carried.
Adjournment: The Board meeting was adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
