~ fir§ B§11~f ðª§QQ1ª!1QD~ Ken Twit, treasurer, discussed the
--- retirement fund with the Board. In 1985 an error was made
which showed that the City did not need any funding, when it
·
should have been $9000.00, so this will have to be corrected.
He had conferred with Gus Welter, the most knowledgeable
person in the State in this field, on the options of handling
this situation. Options include making up the payment in
1986 along with the current years payment, which would be a
burden to the local government; lowering the retirement
benefits, a negative benefit to the retiring firemen because
the retirement fund is an important reward for years of
service; or possibly making payments to the retirement fund
over a period of years to cover the deficit. Ken will
discuss the situation with the City Council at the next
meeting and Joe will discuss it with the Township Board.
No action will be taken by the local Board's until further
study.
