FIRE BOARD MEETING
MAY 5, 1987
The Fire Advisory Board of the City and Township of St.
Joseph met in regular session on Tuesday, May 5, 1987 in City
Hall Annex.
Members Present:, Town Representative Joe Bechtold; City
Representative Leo Sadlo; Fire Chief Dick Taufen; City
Clerk/Adm. Rachel Stapleton.
Minutes:. Minutes of the February 4, 1987 Fire Board meeting
were approved as presented with a motion by Bechtold;
seconded by Sadlo.
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.
Quarterly Financial Report: The quarterly financial report
was approved with a motion by Bechtold; seconded by Sadlo.
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.

Fire Calls: A standardized answering system is in use, for
the operators answering the calls, to obtain the necessary
information for the type of emergency.
Capi tal Outlay:. Sadlo made a motion to approve the purchase
of two pair of boots; seconded by Bechtold.
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.
§!Qrm ~m~rg~n£Y ~!ªrmi. (formerly civil defense alarm) Fire
Chief will discuss with the Council their desires on making
the sirens useable for storm emergencies and available places
for shelter.
Fire Chief Reports:. Eisenschenk completed the drying tower
repair; roof repair needed, and need to build up flashing
on drying tower: will talk to Council to incorporate with
fixing City Hall roof. The pump on the grass rig needed
repair. Some corrections will have to be made in the fire
hall as recommended by the loss control consultant from the
City's insurance company.
New Fireman:. Neil Loso was approved by the Fire Department to
fill the vacancy created by Jeff Flynn's resignation.

AUGUST 5. 1987
The Fire Advisory Board of the City and Township of St.
Joseph met in regular session on Wednesday. August 5. 1987 at
8:00 p.m. in City Hall Annex.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Town Representative Joe Bechtold; City
Representative Leo Sadlo; Fire Chief Dick Taufen; City
Clerk/Adm. Rachel Stapleton.
MINUTES: Minutes of the May 5, 1987 Fire Board meeting were
approved as presented with a motion by Bechtold; seconded by
Sadlo.
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.
QUARTERLY FINANCIAL REPORT: The quarterly financial report
was approved with a motion by Sadlo; seconded by Bechtold.
- Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.
BUDGET FOR 1988: The Board reviewed expenditures discussed
the budget needs for 1988. After discussion of operating
needs, capital outlay needs, and equipment investment reserve
Sadlo made a motion to approve the budget for 1988 as
follows:
Operating Budget $46,350
Capital Outlay 20,600
Investment Reserve 10,300

seconded by Bechtold.
Ayes: Bechtold. Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.
CHIEF REPORTS: 911 intends to go online on September 11, and
keep the fire phone in use for at least 6 months until people
get used to using the 911 system. The Board also discussed
the posibility of St. Ben's participating in the funding of
the Fire Department needs when the fire phone is no longer in
use since St. Ben's will not be responsible for the phone
answering service and liability which has been their input
for the many years. Discussed was the posibility of the
Mayor and the Township Chairman discussing this matter when
the fire phone use is discontinued.

Chief Taufen also reported that there is a matching grant
available from DNR of $250 for equipment for which he will
apply.
FIRE CHIEF'S CONVENTION: Bechtold made a motion to approve
the expenses for the Fire Chief to attend the annual Fire
Chief's Convention on October 15-18 at Grand Rapids; seconded
by Sadlo.
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.
ADJOURN: Sadlo made a motion to adjourn at 9:05 p.m.;
seconded by Bechtold.
Ayes: Bechtol, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.
