FIRE BOARD MEETING
July 27, 1988
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Fire Advisory
Board of the City and Township of St. Joseph met in regular
session of Wednesday, July 27, 1988 at 8:00 p.m. in City Hall
Annex.
MEMBERS PRESENT: Town Representative Joe Bechtold, City
Representative Leo Sadlo, Fire Chief Richard Taufen, City
Clerk/Adm. Rachel Stapleton.
MINUTES: Minutes of the May 11, 1988 meeting were approved
as presented with a motion by Sadlo; seconded by Bechtold,
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.
QUARTERLY FINANCIAL REPORT: Board requested that the
Investment Reserve Fund be restated to show the true amount
in it and to be renamed "Equipment Reserve Fund." Bechtold
- made a motion to approve the quarterly financial report;
seconded by Sadlo.
- Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.
FIRE CHIEF REPORTS: 1) 911 System: Stearns County Sheriff
reported that the 911 System should be fully implemented by
October 31, 1988. This is a tentative date.
2) Fire Chief discussed fire calls to properties which are
burning without a burning permit. Bechtold recommended that
the cost of the fire call should be billed because these
calls are unnecessary. Clerk to draw up resolution and send
letter of recommendation for this Board to the jurisdictions
stating that all persons burning without a permit will be
charged by the local jurisdiction, for the Fire Department,
and are liable for a fire run during burning bans. The local
jurisdiction is responsible for collecting for the fire
department.
3) Senator Durenburger is attempting to exclude fire
personnel for the federal regulations which will require a
Class B drivers license.
4) The new radios and pager equipment is all ordered, total
cost about $21,300.
5) Dennis Klehr took early retirement, as he moved out of the
fire district and can no longer be in the Fire Department.
6) Fire Chiefs convention is October 19-21. Board generally
agreed that the Fire Chief attend.
7) A peat fire by Zimmers was costly, it burned for many day.
DNR assisted in controlling it at no charge to the fire
district.

. 8} Del Win Ballroom contacted Senator Bertram with a request
to be allowed to hold events, such as sales of furniture,
clothing, etc. The State Fire Marshall and Senator Bertram
agreed to allow the Del Win to hold two events of this type
per year. They would be required to have two firemen and a
fire truck on the premises, payment for time and truck was
unclear. The Fire Department disagrees with this allowance
of the Del Win.
9} Chief reported that 3 or 4 new pair of boots are needed.
Sadlo made a motion to approve up to four new pair of boots,
at a cost of up to $75 per pair. The motion was seconded by
Bechtold.

Nayes: None. Motion carried.
ADJOURN: Sadlo made a motion to adjourn at 9:45 p,m.;
seconded by Bechtold.
Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen.
Nayes: None. Motion carried.
