JOSEPH, MINNESOTA 56374 MEMBER LEAGUE OF MUNICIPALITIES FIRE BOARD MEETING October 26, 1988 Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Fire Advisory Board of the City and Township of St. Joseph met in regular session on Wednesday, October 26, 1988 at 8:00 p.m. in City Hall Annex. MEMBERS PRESENT: Town Representative Joe Bechtold, City Representative Leo Sadlo, Fire Chief Richard Taufen, City Clerk/Adm. Rachel Stapleton. MINUTES: Minutes of the July 27, 1988 meeting were approved as presented with a motion by Sadlo; seconded by Bechtold. Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen. Nayes: None. Motion carried. CHIEF REPORTS: 1 ) The 911 equipment for the St. Joseph Fire Department is all here and installed in the trucks and pagers - issued to firemen. The changes have been made in the radio equipment except the end coder. Page call was 22, now is - changed to 12. Our system will be operating on the Stearns County frequency, but not through Stearns County 911 system until Stearns County has their equipment installed and operating. 2) We are hopeful that St. Ben's will resume the fire phone answering duties soon and relieve us of the costs of personnel for the night shift. 3) The radios which we were using which belong to DNR were sent back to them as requested. Board agreed to advertise for sale, the remaining 3 radios and 23 pagers. 4) Elmer Rakotz has retired as of October 15, 1988, after 20 years of service. 5) The Fire Department is considering including in the by- laws, requirements to include drug testing. 6) Annual truck maintenance has been done in the past by a company from Duluth. Haven't heard from them, and Mid Central gave a reasonable quote. Sadlo made a motion to approve Mid Central's quote of $210 plus supplies for truck maintenance; seconded by Bechtold. Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen. Nayes: None. Motion carried. 7) Drivers license Class B requirements have been waived for firefighters. 8) Getting air packs filled is getting increasingly difficult. We may have to consider getting a compressor and equipment for this soon. The cost would be $10,000 to $15. 000. The Board discussed the possibility of joining with another department on this equipment. · . ~v 9) Fire Prevention Week - demonstrations at Kennedy and Lab schools, Rainbow House, and Swanson's Day Care Center. 10) Aerial ladder needs to be tested every ten years. To be discussed at the February meeting. ADJOURN: Sadlo made a motion to adjourn at 8:55 p.m; seconded by Bechtold. Ayes: Bechtold, Sadlo, Taufen. Naves: None.
