Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, the Cit.y Council met in I
special session on Thursday, May 13, 1993 at 7:00 p. Tn. in the st.
Joseph City Hall.
The Mayor called to order the Joint Meeting between the St. Joseph City
Council and the St. Joseph Planning Commission.
Council Members P:n?sent: Mayor Donald "Bud" Reber. Council Members
Stephanie Hazen, Rober"t Loso, Ken Hiemenz. Clerk/Adm Rachel Staple"ton.
Planninq Commissioners Present: Chair Hub Klein. Commissioners Andy
Bri:.dus, Dan Nier-engar-ten, Linda Sniezek, Marge Lesnick. Judy \~eyrens,
Secretary o:f the Board.
Mayor Reber- opened the meeting and turned it over to Area Planner, Fred
Sandal.
Mr. Sandal opened the meeting stating that he has been ",orking "lith the
Planning Commission for the past two (2 ) years on revising the
Comprehensive Plan. The Planning Commission is com:fortable "tith the
document as it reads and is asking the Council for their
ideas/concerns. Mr. Sandal's presentation to -the Council included the
follovting:

Discussion :followed on the :future roadway planned through property
o\'lned by College/Convent o:f St. Benedict. The Planning Commission
unanimously agreed that the corridor in ques-tion be removed from the
plan. Councilor Loso stated that the City and TO"lDship agreed to leave
that section of the corridor in the Plan. The annexation of St.
Benedict was contingent upon the preservation o:f the co:c:r-idor.
Councilor Hazen felt that be:fore any further discussion took place on
this matter, that the TO"lDship Board, Planning Commission (both Ci-ty
and To",nship) , College/Conven't RepresentativE', and City Council needed
to meet.
Mr. Sandal stated that the steps remaining are as follo'\'1s:

Councilor Hazen comm'?nded both thE:' Planning Commission and Fred Sandal
for their diligent "fork on the plan.

Plan, a meeting date \'till be established with botrl the City and
Township Planning Commissions, City Council, TO''fll.ship Board, and a
Repl~esentati Ve of St. Benedict. Councilor Hazen also requested th8t
Legal Counsel fo:c both the City and TOi'H1Ship be press'n t at this meeting

motion was seconded by Loso.

Mayor Reber r-e-opened the mee-ting a-t 8:20 p. TfI. \-lith only -the Council

Hayor Reber- stated that he had L)Œ,en contacted by R ¡:;y B:candenburger
about property he Q'i..;ns along CSAH 75. The property has been annexed
and re'-zoüt?d to commercial. Hr. Brandenburger \" ishe8 -r.o rt?nt the land
to be farmed. Loso made a motion to allow Mr. Brandenbu:cgE'r- to farm
I the land as requested. The motion 'o"a8 seconded by Hazerl.
