HomeMy WebLinkAbout1977 [07] Jul 21 766 Thursday, July 21, 1977 Special Council Meeting held on Thursday July 21st. Persons in attendance were Mayor Hugo B. Weyrens, Herman Schneider, Bud Réber,: érteve Dehi.er. In the absence of Clerk Bob Johnson the Mayor appointed Steve Dehler to record I minutes. Joe Bettendorf Engineer, John Knapp Attorney also present. Discussion took place concerning business ventures in R-2 residence district. Joe Bettendorf reported the information he had received from Sisters of St. Benedicts concerning the purchase of drainage property from them. The Sisters are asking~26,000 for 25 acres. Joe reported that like land purchased by the State was around $300 per acre. Approximate~y 14 acres of the property would be used for natural drainage pond and the rest for park area. There are approximately 160 Oak and 62 Elm trees on the property - of them, 1 3 Oak and 28 Elm were dead. All Elms would eventually have to be removed. Does this property have access across St. Bens property from the west - we weren't sure the asking price included it., ªohn Knapp instructed to arrange a meeting for Monday or Tuesday with the Sisters, their Attorney, the City Council, Joe Bettendorf and John Knapp. Motion by Herman Schneider seconded by Bud Reber. Motion passed unanimously. Much more discussing was done as to the negotiating factors of buying this property. John Knapp assured us that the off-sale liquor license applied for by Bill Jones (WJ Properties) is automatically cancelled because 1 year has expired. Joe Bettendorf to contact Randy Schumacher concerning using his expertise to apply for park purchasing grants. Motion made by Bud Reber seconded by Herman Schneider to approve off-sale I liquor license application by Dave Hollander provided he complies with all Sate and Local Regulations concerning building and operating. Ayes: Schneider, Reber, Dehler, Weyrens. Nayes: None After checking areas surrounding us, the Planning Commission recommen~to the City Council to adopt a resolution raising hearing fees at Planning Commission meeting to $100 at regular meetings, $125 for special meeting. Herman Schneider made the motion to pass a resolution raising the hearing fees to $100 at regular meetings and $125 at special meetings, seconded by Bud Reber. Ayes: Schneider, Reber, Dehler, Weyrens. Nayes: None Dick Taufen is requesting the city to purchase a cycle mower to be used on tall weeds in park. Council would like to see mower before making decision. Trees next to Park Shelter Park were requested by Claude Menzhuber to be cut down. It was determined that they are on State Hwy Property and Claude could cut them down with their written permission. Meeting adjourned at 9:30. Minutes taken by I Steve Dehler
