Minutes of t"e Meeting of tbe Village Council, r-lay 31, 1955

The Village Council of the Village of St. {oseph met in Ð~ecial I
session at the Village hall on May 31, 1955 at the hour~of PM.
All members of the Council were present except Reynold *ellner.
Joe Unise of Sauk Rapids applied for the Liquor License that was
vacated by Ray Schindler. He presented his plans to the Council.
Unise purchased 2 lots of the new location of HigwaY 52. Intends
to build a cemment blmck building with basement and the m0in.floor
in tvo partitions, oner.;rt for a Liquor place and the other part
for à restuarant. The lots are located at the east end of the Village.
The Council discussed his application and tabled it until the regular
meeting on Tuesday, June 6.-
Leonard Lesnau, 13 Columbia Ave ~Œ, St. Cloud withdrew his interest
from the possibility of obtaining a license for selling liquor in
St. Joseph. He appeared at the council to tell them that his interst
in the matter was in good faith and his reason for withdrawing was
financial.
~awrence Loso d/b/a Midway Bar and Claude Menzhuber g/b/a El Paso
Club presented their application for rene,.¡al--·of their lJiquor Licenses.
Loso asked the cou~cil whether the Village legally could issue mmre
th,.,n 2 On-Sale licenses. Village attorney John ICnapp reas the regu-
lation assuring him it was legal. The matter of the fee was discuss-
ed also. The American Legion, OQD.Jaren and the V.F.Wi presented
their applications I
Julian Botz_made the motion to acccept all applications for' On
~~d Off-Sale Liquor Licenses. Herman ':;'chneider seconded the motion.
All were in favor.
A State representative for the Highway Department discussed the
purch~se of gravel from the village. Stated that if the Village did
not sell that they would then buy all the gravel from St. Benedictts
and dig behind our property leaving a hill in the middle. The council
discussed future village consumption, future park, recreation ~nd
parking arêa would result from the sale. The gravel is to be sold
for 5 cents pe cubic yard. Juli?n Botz made the motion to sell the
gravel to the State, seconded by rlerman Scp~eider. All in favor.

the advantage of investingmone on Certificate or Deposit. On C.D.
the intere'st would, be ç;reater .for a period of 6 years and available
after each year. ne suggessted a revolving month plan of investing.
After di~cussion Julian Botz made a motion to invest money,from the
General Hevenue and other funds nqtbearing inte~st, fun Certificate of
Deposit notes, $$,000 immediately and $2,000 every month thereafter '
until a safe working total was reached. Herman Schneider seconded
the motion.
The Council voted in favor of supporting the recreation program I
instituted by the Legion for the younger children.
