Joseph met in special session on September 23, 2002 at 6:00 PM in the SI. Joseph City Hail. I I Members Present: Mayor Larry Hosch. Councilors Cory Ehlert, Bob Loso, AI Rassier, Kyle Schneide~. Administrator Judy Weyrens. ¡ ! Others Present: Public Works Director Dick Taufen, Maintenance Staff employees Jim Marthaler, Mike Sworski and Gary Donabauer. ' i Mayor Hosch stated the purpose of the meeting is to consider the award of the contract for the i construction of a maintenance facility to be located at the same site at the current facility. The existing facility will be razed with a new 12,000 square foot facility constructed. 1 Hosch stated that since the last meeting regarding the facility, he is having second thoughts and 1 questions if the City is building smartly. The proposed site is limited for expansion and is a secluded area. Hosch stated it is important for the Council to build for the future, not today. He further questioned if the City looked at other possibilities, including constructing the facility in the Township. , I Rassier stated that he believes the proposed site is a good location and the City already owns the I property. It may not be feasibie for the City to purchase additional land. Rassier further stated that a committee has been working on this project for a number of months and he respects the work they have ~~. I I Jim Marthaler stated that the City does need to move forward with the construction of a facility, but questions the location. Since it is already September, Marthaler questioned if they couldn't wait until ¡ spring and during the next couple of months research other land possibilities. Marthaler further stated that consideration was not given to providing a welding area, which is needed or if a sprinkler system is needed. 1 Rassier made a motion to move forward with the construction of the Maintenance Facility at the existing location with a completion date of April 15, 2003 and authorize the Mayor to execute the , construction contract between Shingobee Builders and the City of St. Joseph. The motion was seconded by Loso and passed unanimously. I ¡ To help store the equipment during construction, the Council was in agreement to rent storage trailers from Bill Wasner as the City has done in the past.
