HomeMy WebLinkAbout[04h] Gambling Report Council Agenda Item 4 fhb crry(w S-r,jo4rl"1"H MEETING DATE: March 7, 2016 AGENDA ITEM: Gambling Report—Requested Action: Accept the 4th Quarter Report SUBMITTED BY: Finance BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: None PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Gambling Premise permits were approved for the St. Joseph Lion's, St. Joseph Jaycees, American Legion Post 9328 and the Central MN Sexual Assault Center. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Per City Ordinance No. 62 each organization conducting lawful gambling within the City of St. Joseph is required to submit copies of their monthly state tax returns to City Hall on a quarterly and annual basis. Per review of the tax returns the organizations are sufficiently supporting the local community with their gambling proceeds. Examples of how the organizations are giving back to the community include the following items: Fire Relief Calendars Fire Hall Tables/Chairs Polar Plunge Kennedy Community School All Saints Academy Toys for Tots Easter Party Circus GRRL Bulletin Ad Tri-City School Grad Parties Street Flags Catholic Charities Legion Baseball Joe Town Summer Lunch Local citizens—hardships Mark Zimmer Foundation St. Joseph FD saw/bags St. Joseph Food Shelf Salvation Army Troop packages Dollars for Scholars Joe Boys Little Free Libraries St. Cloud VA Tri County Humane Society St. Joseph Summer Rec SCSU Veterans Color Guard Tri-County Humane Society Area Learning Center Vacation Bible School Northland Footgolf Big Brothers/Big Sisters Community Dinner Giving Tree St. Joseph Action Group Assumption Community ISD 742 ROTC Funeral Details St. Joseph Churches Required St. Joseph Community Organization Net Profits Donation Donations % Donated American Legion Post 328 $68,894 $6,889 $21,455 31% St. Joseph Lion's $27,097 $2,710 $6,850 25% St. Joseph Jaycees $35,498 $3,550 $26,277 74% Central MN Sexual Assault Center $444 $44 $ - 0% Notes: 1. Some organizations provided substantial donations to the St. Joseph community in other quarters. 2. The Sexual Assault Center provides services and training to police officers and community members of St. Joseph. No direct donation is provided by the Organization. The costs are reported in their operations. CMSAC discontinued gambling operations at the Middy in May 2015.
