Subject: Minnesota Street intersection with 1stavenue
Hello Judy,
| think Gina brought this up ata planning commission meeting as a point in regards to another discussion, but | wanted
to express my concern and request that a closer look betaken at the intersection of Minnesota street and 1'tavenue.
This isthe entrance the church and school.
| have personally had several close calls there, one was yesterday. It isvery difficult to seethe traffic on Minnesota
street when leaving the parking lot, and when going across Minnesota street from 1'tavenue.This is due to the amount
of parked cars obstructing the view, large SUV's and mini vans are the worst, and that's what seems to be parked there
most often. Adding to the difficulty is the drastic range of speeds cars travel through there, it seems like one care is
going1S'ZUmphthenthenextisat3U'3Smph, vxiththeamountoftrafDcthereitisextreme|ydifDcu|ttosafe|ygeton
or across Minnesota street. Honestly you need to look twice and floor it to make sure you clear the intersection quickly.
That is the next problem, you are so focused on looking past all the vehicles obstructing your view, that you could very
possibly miss the fact that someone has entered the cross walk.
I now drive around to avoid taking I't street when picking up and dropping off at the school, itjust isn't safe in my eyes,
but neither is heading west out of the church parking lot. Yesterday's incident was too close and made me finally email
you about the situation.
I put on a great deal of miles every year and honestly this is one of the scariest intersections that I travel, with having
elementary students (who are not the best at looking for traffic) next to the intersection, not addressing this could very
well lead toatragic situation.
If this is something that can be looked at I would greatly appreciate it. I would offer a suggestion to make it a four way
stop. |fthere isaconcern toadding anadditional four way stop to Minnesota street, you could look atremoving the four
way stop that is located at 2n avenue. That has been a four way stop for about the last 15 years, | believe it was added
due to the truck traffic coming through town before the bypass. While that intersection is also busy, there are nowhere
near the parked cars obstructing the view making itmuch safer.
|fyou would like any more info, feel free togive meacall.
Thanks,
