Minutes of ineeting held 22 May 2000
Meeting called to order by Lonnie Abbott at 6:31 pm.
Members present: Lonnie Abbott, John Walz, Bruce Berghorst, Jennifer Wirz, Cory
Ehlert, Marge Lesnick
Members absent: Chuck Muske
Approval of Agenda: Motion by Lesnick, seconded by Walz
*Added "benches" to "other" section
Approval of Minutes from 25 April 2000: Motion by Lesnick, seconded by Berghorst
*Changed "hold digger" to "hole digger"
*Changed "Kleinfelter" to "Klinefelter"
Liaison Report: Frisbee golf is up and going well, with the exception of a space issue
regarding a compost pile. This can be resolved. Signs are going up to alert
people to the frisbee golf activities.
Cory needs to know the date of the cement project for the hockey rink.
Update: St. Wendell Athletic Association meets the 2nd Saturday of every
month, so Cory will attend to follow up on the reimbursements for summer Rec.
We discussed the removal of trees in the industrial park along 133. Lonnie will
try to meet with �e�to decide what will be done.
Chair Report: The prop-e y line has been re-established on the NE side of the lot at
Northland Park.
Klinefelter Park "big toy" is finished! The kids love it, and the work is done.
Marge will put out a public "THANK YOU" to the workers (Channel 3).
O!d Business: We have a new appli�ation to Bauerly Brothers for the donation they
had offered if we hire them to pave the parking lot. We need to reapply if we
want to do this. Cory mentioned that we may be able to work with the City as
they begin other overlay projects in the area. We discussed several options for
completing this project.
Bids for cementing the hockey rink have been collected. Kurt Schneider's bid
is the lowest ($11,000). Motion by Walz and seconded by Lesnick to approve
this bid, and use the $8500 allocated, plus $750 from the Rod and Gun Club, plus
$1000 from NSP to fund the project. Motion passed.
Bids were collected for grass seeding around the parking lot at Northland.
Motion by Lesnick and seconded by Berghorst to accept the lowest bid, $700
(Schroeden). Motion passed.
Updates on the Phase III Northland project:
a. Toys, equipment - motion by Berghorst, seconded by Lesnick to
purchase Space Arch ($458) and digger ($371). Nlotion passed.
b. Motion by Lesnick, seconded by Wirz to develop volleyball court in
the SE corner of Northland, including posts and sand, in SOx90
dimension. Motion passed.
c. We would like a Northland Park entrance sign - Cory will order it
Marge called about the Amcon benches. All 3 are in parks now: two at
Klinefelter and one at Northland. Marge will send a "thank you" to Amcon.
New Business: Dennis from the Newsleader.would like articles spotlighting each park.
Topics can include: what's in the park, what are future plans, where is it
located, how it may be used, etc. Jennifer will write about Klinefelter, Lonnie
will write about Northland, Bruce will write up Centennial, Marge will do
Memorial and Monument, and John will write about the tot lots.
John mentioned a study about the risks of green treated lumber (possible
arsenic contamination if not painted or sealed). Something for us to keep in
mind.
We discussed beautification projects and funds designated by the Council.
There have been no requests made yet for soccer field supplies.
Walz motioned to adjourn (seconded by Lesnick) at 8:30.
