BACKGROUND INFORMATION: AgStar Financial Services provides small grants for emergency
response equipment to volunteer fire departments in rural service areas. Grants are awarded to
departments with limited budgets and replace out of date or aged equipment. Departments must
reside in the AgStar local service area. Stearns County departments qualify. Grant recipients must not
have received a grant within the previous 2 years and must apply by August 31St. Grants are awarded up
to$3,000 per department. A total of$150,000 is available for this grant period.
Staff requests applying for a $3,000 grant to help offset costs of updating turnout gear for three
firefighters. One set of gear(including boots, pants,jacket and helmet) costs $2,331.67. NAFTA
Standards states gear is good for 10 years. Turnout gear is replaced on a rotating basis with 3-5 sets
replaced annually.

grant up to $3,000 to help fund three sets of turnout gear.
