BACKGROUND INFORMATION: At our last Fire Board meeting in August,the Fire Board was informed
that the Department will be short three members beginning in November. The Board authorized the
Chief and Administrator to start the hiring process and forward a recommendation to the Board.
The City received five applicants with one withdrawing(Ashley Rennie) before the interview and agility
testing. The applicants included: Rob Lyon, Nick Curtis, Matt Kritzeck, Blake Schwegel and Ashley
Rennie. The investigating committee is recommending the hiring of Rob Lyon, Nick Curtis and Matt
Kritzeck. They are also recommending placing Blake Schwegel on the waiting list as he does not
currently meet the response time requirements, but will shortly. He also a trained firefighter, reducing
the investment for the next opening.
The next step in the process is the completion of the background check and physical which will be
completed shortly. The start date is scheduled for January 10, 2017.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: Up to$5,000.00 per new member for classes and gear over a two year
window.

REQUESTED ACTION: Fire Board accept the investigating committee recommendation and forward hire
Rob Lyon, Nick Curtis and Matt Kritzeck to the City Council for appoint, pending completion of the
background check and physical. .

The Investigating Committee would like to recommend that Rob Lyon, Nick Curtis, and
Matt Kritzeck move forward with the Background Testing and Physicals.
Although Blake Schwegel scored the highest out of them all, he's residence is not in our
area yet. He has purchased land and will start building a new house in spring. We would like to
put him on a list so when he has his house built and we have room we can hire him.
