AGENDA ITEM: Firefighters – Requested Action: Accept the recommendation of the
Fire Board and appoint the following as firefighters effective January 1, 2017: Rob Lyon, Nick Curtis,
Matt Kritzeck.

BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: On November 2, 2016 the Fire
Board reviewed the recommendation of the Fire Department Investigating committee regarding hiring
three fire fighters and accepted their recommendation.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Fire Board in August was informed that the
Department will be short three members beginning in November. The Board authorized the
Chief and Administrator to start the hiring process and forward a recommendation to the Board.
The City received five applicants with one withdrawing (Ashley Rennie) before the interview
and agility testing. The applicants included: Rob Lyon, Nick Curtis, Matt Kritzeck, Blake
Schwegel and Ashley Rennie. The investigating committee is recommending the hiring of Rob
Lyon, Nick Curtis and Matt Kritzeck. They are also recommending placing Blake Schwegel on
the waiting list as he does not currently meet the response time requirements, but will shortly. He
also a trained firefighter, reducing the investment for the next opening. The next step in the
process is the completion of the background check and physical which will be completed shortly.
The start date is scheduled for January 10, 2017.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: Approximate $ 5,000 per firefighter over two year period
