AGENDA ITEM: Fire Chief's Report
• Our latest three members are in the process of getting their needed classes set up. We have
one member,Justin Hunt,who joined the department on January 12, 2016 that needs to get
his Class B lic w/Tanker endorsement done. He has 2 years from start date to complete.
• Gold Cross is now trying to have one of their trucks in town as much as possibly,which is
great for the community. We have been keeping an eye on this for the fact that our call
numbers for the department have not changed, but the number of times the department is
paged out and canceled or show up to the scene of a medical and are told we are not needed
and sent home is on a rise. My 2 concerns on this is that the members may start to not show
up just to get canceled and the other is the cost this is having on our budget. Gold Cross has
stated that they do their best to have one of their trucks in St.Joe at all times but it is not a
guarantee and they may change their minds down the road and move this truck to a different
community or area. I we keep an eye on this and keep the Fire Board up to speed if and
when we may want to look at making some changes.
• We recently had to replace the water heater at the fire hall with a new one. The old one has
been in since 1997 and we looked at repairing it,but due to its age,the cost to fix it, and that
was also leaking, it became a better choice to replace it with a new one. The cost to replace
was around $7,000.00
