MEETING DATE:
February 6, 2017
AGENDA ITEM:Requested Action:
Surplus Property – Declare the fire department small
pump/motor and old fire gear as surplus allowing the same to be disposed.
SUBMITTED BY:
Fire Chief
BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION:
The Fire Board meet on
February 1, 2017 and recommended the Council declare the fire pump and old gear as surplus allowing
the same to be disposed.
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION:
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
In 2016 the pump/motor on the grass rig was replaced in an
effort to revitalize and extend the life of the equipment. Therefore, the existing pump is not needed and
can be sold as surplus. In addition, the Fire Board had to replace fire gear as they have a shelf life of
approximately 10 years. The equipment does not have any value to departments that must meet the
NFPA Standards. The Message Program accepts donated gear and they then find areas that don’t have
any gear or cannot afford their own. We have tried to sell in the past without success. In the past we
have used this program.
