AgStar Financial Services) provides BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Compeer Financial (formerly small grants for emergency response equipment to volunteer fire departments in rural service areas. Grants are awarded to departments with limited budgets and replace out of date or aged equipment. Departments must reside in the Compeer local service area. Stearns County departments qualify. Grant st recipients must not have received a grant within the previous 2 years and must apply by August 31. Grants are awarded up to $3,000 per department. A total of $180,000 is available for this grant period. Staff requests applying for a $3,000 grant to help offset costs of adding iPads to each fire truck for mapping and IAMResponding call software available live while responding to calls. Having this equipment available provides quicker response times and more accurate reporting. In addition, the Fire Department identified the need to replace the AED equipment in unit #6 at a cost of $1,600. The grant request can include the AED also. Annually the Initiative Foundation awards about $1 million in grants to qualifying organizations in Central Minnesota meeting one of the following three programs: Nonprofit Organizational Development program; Thriving Communities Initiative; and Partner Funds. The City of St. Joseph has been a paying member for several years. It has been five years since the City requested a grant award. For 2017, the th Initiative Foundation provided four application periods. The last grant period’s deadline is Oct 6 to submit the City’s Letter of Inquiry (LOI). Reviewing recent awards in the area, Sartell received a significant grant for their dog park and St. Cloud received a grant for parks and rec master planning. Staff requests applying for a grant to master plan the East Park canoe area in an amount up to $7,500. Matching funds are available in the Park Board fund for this project.
