Council Agenda Item 4f
MEETING DATE: March 19, 2018
AGENDA ITEM: Capital Equipment Purchase – Requested Action: Authorize the
purchase of a stationary generator for the Baker Street Lift Station in the amount of $ 43,648.00
SUBMITTED BY: Public Works Director
BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION:
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Annually the City Council reviews and accepts the Capital
Improvement and Equipment Plan. Included with the 2018 (and previous years) was Proj ENG-1543,
Baker Street Lift Station. The CIP has funds in the amount of $ 92,000.00
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Staff worked with Design Electric on assembling the cost
to purchase and install a 80 Kw generator at the Baker lift station. This station has seen an
increase in flow in the last several years which has decreased the response time during power
outages. This generator is needed to prevent sanitary sewer backups during power outages. The
City has received a quote from Design Electric in the amount of $42,648.00. In addition to the
generator cost, the City will have to contract with Total Control to connect the generator to the
SCADA system. It is estimated the cost for connection is $ 1,000. The generator will take 8
weeks to receive after the placement of the order.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: $ 43,648.00
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Authorize the purchase of a 80K generator with connection to
SCADA for the Baker Street Lift station in the amount of $ 43,648.00.
