AGENDA ITEM: Official Newspaper – Requested Action: Designate the St. Cloud Times as
the official Newspaper

BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION:
PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: January 1, 2018 the City Council designated the St. Joseph Newsleader
as the official paper for matters other than construction projects for those the St. Cloud Times was designated.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Janelle from the Newsleader notified the City that for the summer the
Newsleader will only be publishing every other week. City staff has been able to manage the weekly
publication as the Newsleader was very flexible with deadlines, which staff appreciated. However, going to
every other week becomes more problematic. Therefore staff is recommending the Council designate the St.
Cloud Times as the official newspaper until they return to an every week publication.
ATTACHMENTS: Email advising of change in publication dates.
REQUESTED COUNCIL ACTION: Designate the St. Cloud Times as the official Newspaper.

The plan is to go back to weekly, but it will depend on the amount of advertising customers whether or not that’s
feasible.

Thanks Janelle, we are good and do not need anything. I am just clarifying, will you go
back to a weekly publication in fall. The every other week will not work for us in
particular for the Planning Commission. They only meet once a month and we will have
some issues, things always come up at the last minute. I understand the Newsleader
qualifies for the official paper, but deadlines will become an issue. Again, just looking
for clarification.

Hi Judy,
I left you a voicemail today asking if you have any advertising needs
(legals, employment or Movies in the Park) for City of St. Joseph that
you'd like to place in our upcoming June 15 and/or June 29 editions of the
St. Joseph Newsleaders.
We’ve cut back to a twice-a-month schedule during this summer. Our
remaining summer editions include the following: July 13 & 27 and Aug.
10 & 24. The office will be closed July 2-6.
I would be grateful if you could reply and let me know if you are interested
or not in running. Deadlines are typically Tuesday prior.
If you would like to place advertising, please let me know and I'd be glad
to accommodate.
It is perfectly OK to tell me you do not have any advertising needs at this
time. If so, please share with me when you'd like to be contacted next.
Upcoming editions include the following: Sept. 7, 14, 21 & 28; Oct. 5, 12,
19 & 26; Nov. 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30; Dec. 7, 14 & 21. The office will be
closed Dec. 24-28; we will not publish Dec. 28 editions.
