HomeMy WebLinkAbout[08a] WTP #1 Filter Rehabilitation Change Order Council Agenda Item MEETING DATE: July 2, 2018 AGENDA ITEM:WTP #1 Filter Rehabilitation SUBMITTED BY: Terry Thene, Public Works Director Randy Sabart, City Engineer BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Award Bid for WTP #1 Filter Rehabilitation Approve Piping Modifications BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Project Manual for the WTP #1 Filter Rehabilitation Project (Project) included the filter manufacturer’s original construction drawing of the existing filter. The manufacturer’s drawing indicated the coatings inside the filter tank should have had a maximum thickness of 15.0 mils. Field measurements of coatings thickness collected during construction when the filter was emptied indicated areas that were approximately double the expected thickness. The Contractor incurred additional costs related to sandblasting the filter to properly prepare the surface for the new coating system. Change Order No. 2 includes the additional costs related to labor and materials of the additional sandblasting and coatings work completed for the project, based on information that was discovered during construction. It also includes painting of the raw water piping within the WTP that was not included in the original contract. With the addition of Change Order No. 2, the contract price for the project increases to $199,813.00. Pay Application No. 3 (Final) in the amount of $26,837.78 is the last pay application for the Project. This pay application brings the final amount eligible for payment to $191,459.00, which is $2,241.00 less than the original bid price. The final payment amount is less than the original bid price because of adjustments in the unit price work that was completed. Rice Lake Construction Group has completed all work related to the Project and has submitted all of the close out documentation required in the contract.
