STAFF RECOMMENDATION: Approve building request for Kiln Building Addition
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Building permit applications for new construction and additions
located in the EE-Educational-Ecclesiastical District must be reviewed and approved by the Planning
Commission. The College of St. Benedict (CSB) is requesting building permit approval to expand the kiln
building which is located in the EE District in the southern side of their campus, south of the tennis
courts. The existing kiln shed is a one story, 1,200 square feet pole type construction building with metal
roofing and siding. The addition is proposed to be 480 square feet extending off the front (north side). It
would be constructed of metal roof and siding to match the existing building. The shed is for fire wood
storage and includes a wood fired kiln for pottery. The setbacks would follow the typical EE District
standards as follows:
Required: Front: 35 feet
Rear: 20 feet
Side (interior): 20 feet
Side (street): 30 feet
