BACKGROUND INFORMATION: The Council has had discussion about hiring a full-time
Recreation Direct. At this time the position would be a part-time position working 10-15 hours per week.
BUDGET/FISCAL IMPACT: $15,000.00

POSITION: RECREATION DIRECTOR
DEPARTMENT: Administration
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: City Administrator
HOURS WORKED: 10-15 Hours per Week
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
SUMMARY
This part-time position is responsible for the creation of community recreation programming and public
events for all ages by providing leadership and direction in the planning, development and
implementation of a community recreation program for the City of St. Joseph. This position works under
the general supervision of the City Administrator. The positon will average 10-15 hours per week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Plan, prepare and evaluate programming for all age groups.
Coordinates program schedules and activities with the schools, county, youth associations, related
agencies and other City departments.
Reviews and evaluates all activities and services, and submits recommendations for program
improvement.
Purchases program equipment and supplies as required.
Prepares and submits annual budget recommendations for various recreation programs.
Develops and promotes marketing materials.
REQURIED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to be creative and innovative in programming and marketing of recreation programs.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external
customers.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to communicate and interact with customers.
PHYSCIAL DEMANDS
Moderate physical activity such as standing, walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, twisting,
pushing, pulling, bending, stopping, and squatting.
Ability to occasionally lift materials and supplies ranging from 20-60 pounds
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Generally works indoors, temperature controlled.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree majoring in recreation or closely related field
Minimum of two years’ experience coordinating recreation programs.
Able to meet physical demands and working conditions.
Valid Minnesota driver’s license.
DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Previous supervisory experience
