HomeMy WebLinkAbout[04d] Gambling Report Council Agenda Item 4d MEETING DATE: February 18, 2020 AGENDA ITEM: Gambling Report - 4th Quarter Report SUBMITTED BY: Finance BOARD/COMMISSION/COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: None PREVIOUS COUNCIL ACTION: Gambling Premise permits were approved for the St. Joseph Lion’s, St. Joseph Jaycees, Granite City Lumberjacks and American Legion Post #328. BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Per City Ordinance No. 62 each organization conducting lawful gambling within the City of St. Joseph is required to submit copies of their monthly state tax returns to City Hall on a quarterly and annual basis. Per review of the tax returns the organizations are sufficiently supporting the local community with their gambling proceeds. Examples of how the organizations are giving back to the community include the following items: Area High School Grad Parties Kennedy Community School ISD 742 Boys/Girls State St. Cloud Apollo Booster Club Hanging Flowers Granite City Lumberjacks St. Joseph Dollars for Scholars Rocori Trap Club Place of Hope Boy/Girl Scouts Salvation Army th Legion Baseball July 4 Bands Street Flags/Street Project Mark Zimmer Foundation St. Joseph Food Shelf Memorial Day Guard/Organist St. Joseph Lab School Community Easter Party Local Memorials/Medical Bills St. Joseph Fire Safety Calendar Resurrection Lutheran Church Benton County Arena Required St. Joseph Community Organization Net Profits Donation Donations % Donated American Legion Post 328 $81,024 $8,102 $14,801 18% St. Joseph Lion's $63,098 $6,310 $41,981 67% St. Joseph Jaycees $24,921 $2,492 $10,994 44% Granite City Lumberjacks $36,959 $3,686 $137,000 372% Note: Some organizations provided substantial donations to the St. Joseph community in other quarters.
