COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT REPORT
TO: HONERABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
DATE: April 17, 2020
SUMMARY
With the MN Stay At Home Executive Order, I have been sending out, at a minimum, weekly email updates to
St. Joseph businesses, including resources available to them for emergency loans, unemployment benefits, etc.
Additionally, I have added a COVID-19 Business Resource web page to the City’s website. It’s that time of
year where residents are planning various building projects i.e. fences, sheds, etc. so I have been responding to
quite a number zoning and building questions from residents. Further updates are as follows:
th
Planning Commission: Had meeting via telephone on April 13 to review and act on the final plat of
rd
Liberty Pointe 3 Addition.
Planning Intern: I have received 7 applications for the Planning Intern position and plan to interview in
th
the next couple of weeks. Duration of the internship is planned from May 18 – August. Last month, the City
Council accepted a $1,000 grant award for the intern wage from the Minnesota Economic Development
Foundation.
Ordinance Updates: I have drafted a new nuisance ordinance, which will be presented to the City
Council in May, along with amendments to the fee schedule.
Meetings: Prior to the Stay Home MN Order, BR & E (Business, Retention & Expansion) meetings
were held with Full Circle Water and Collegeville Properties. BR & E visits will resume when feasible.
New Business: St. Joseph welcomes The Perfect Fit, a new business located in the former Newsleader
Building, north of St. Joe Meat Market. The building is being renovated. Additionally, I responded to three new
businesses inquiries (commercial and industrial).
