POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT
TO: HONERABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
DATE: May 15, 2020
SUMMARY
The St. Joseph Police Department has shifted gears and often patrol activities have been substituted for
the occasional drive by birthday party. News stations have popularized this type of activity and I have
authorized the drive by birthday parades as long as demand stays low and officers are available to participate.
No guarantees promised in the event another call for assistance comes up. Even with students gone since
th
March 13, 2020 the PD numbers are remaining high. In April 2019, with students in full swing, we saw 332
calls for assistance that month. In April 2020, we took a total of 278. I will promise we would have made up
th
that difference of 54 calls with a full college session in place. Even as I type this report on May 13, 2020, we
rd
have logged ICR 1277 for the year. In 2019, we hit ICR 1277 on May 23, 2019. That is only 10 days away
and students have been gone for nearly 2 months this year. So, to say it seems busy is not just a feeling or
misconception, the numbers reflect it in the log book.
STAFF
Staff is healthy and positive at this point. Taking everything, day by day and week by week.
UPCOMING MEETINGS & EVENTS
We are looking forward to having our first staff meeting in nearly 4 months. I think everyone is eager
to see each other in person. Other than that, not much else on the calendar for special events.
Stay Healthy and Positive!
