POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT
TO: HONERABLE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL
DATE: June 11, 2020
SUMMARY
Business and life are slowly returning to normal? Well even though the Police department attempted to play
catch up on back logs of work like purging evidence that has been cleared by the courts through dismissals,
convictions, or statute of limitations expiring, we are now coming back into the reality that life will be back on
track for business again. We had cases with evidence that went back into the 1990s with evidence that needed
to go away before we moved into this new facility. Our evidence techs, MaryBeth and Officer Matt Johnson
worked well for about a week documenting and processing old evidence for proper disposal.
STAFF
Staff has been steady. I do want to point out numbers as I often do because it generally tells a story. So in
2019, we used ICRs 1043 to 1345 for a total of 302 ICRs. This was when we had students, graduation, and
business open with no restrictions. As of right now in 2020, we used ICRs 1162 to 1489 for a total of 327 ICRs
with so much shut down and next to no students. Between the annexation and law enforcement calls up in
general, there has absolutely been no let up in paperwork. As a matter of fact, during a zoom meeting this week
with the Mayor and the College Dean of Students, they requested getting information on student misconduct
behavior quicker. I informed them that without additional staff in office, this cannot happen without coming up
short somewhere else. We only have one Mary, and have only had 1 person since before I arrived here in 2002.
At of this memo on Thursday 06/11/2020 we used ICR # 1626. In 2019 we did not use that ICR number until
rdthth
AFTER the 3 and 4 of July on July 6. Nearly a month worth of work ahead of schedule with so much
closed down. It will be interesting to see how things go this fall if College returns to its normal state.
