Many people in countries around the world do not have the same freedom, nor did many Americans in centu- ries past. No matter what you believe or whom you support, it is important to exercise your rights. I hope everyone who want- ed to vote did just that. Veterans Day is a holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars and in 2022, will occur on Friday, November 11. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War”. Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans—living or deceased—but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served our country honorably during war or peacetime. I sincerely thank and praise all those who have served our country. There is a plethora of wonderful organizations that offer all manners of support, services and appreciation for our service members. If you want to show your appreciation, do- nate to Veteran-Focused Charities, like St. Cloud Standdown. https://stcloudstanddown.com. As the leaves fall and the temperatures drop, we all know winter will soon be upon us. One reminder for the upcoming winter season - Winter Parking Rules! Within the city limits of St. Joe, parking is prohibited on streets from November 1st to April 1st between the hours of 2am and 7am. However; a nice addition that doesn't seem to be the case in other cities, is if you happen to have visitors or some other special event, you may contact the Police Department 320.363.8250 and tempo- rary permission may be granted unless a snow event occurs. As winter approaches and snow arrives, please do your best in keeping paths clear for walking. It’s such a neighborly act for those of us who gravitate outdoors in winter. I encourage you to get outdoors as much as possible and enjoy the season. Holidays are sometimes stressful, but very needed time to connect with friends and loved ones. I think if I've learned any- thing about friends, it's to stay connected. Don't get distracted, don't be too busy or tired, don't take them for granted. Friends are part of the fabric that holds us together. Have a safe and fruitful holiday season!
