HomeMy WebLinkAbout05.01.22In the Know in St. Joseph May 2022 Residents of St. Joseph… Is it just me, or does it feel like Spring is not coming and summer will be especially welcome this year? St. Jo- seph has many great amenities to explore, and I wanted to highlight a few: • Klinefelter Park: Includes a walking trail around a central wetland area. The park is maintained in a nat- ural vegetative state where wildlife can co-exist with the visitors. Our plan is to add new enclosed bath- rooms to this park. • Millstream Park: Sits on the northwestern edge of the city and provides a multitude of recreational ac- tivities, including Disc Golf, baseball fields, dog park and playground. The area features a wooded walking trail nestled among the Watab River. • East Park: 95.30 acres along the Sauk River. Poten- tial features in this park include: walking trail, ca- noe/boat landing, passive recreation area, nature cen- ter, educational signage, nature trails and landscap- ing. • Lake Wobegon Trailhead: The Lake Wobegon Trailhead provides you with access to the Lake Wobegon Trail, a 65-mile-long, 10-foot-wide, paved end to end trail. A spur of the Lake Wobegon Trail goes north to Holdingford, home of Minnesota’s longest covered bridge. At the west end of the Wobe- gon trail, you may continue to the Central Lakes State Trail, a 55-mile paved trail to Fergus Falls. The city plans to continue our sidewalk and trails con- nection system, providing a safer environment for pedes- trians to walk or bike throughout the city. We are excited to see the applications for this year ’s events coming back. Joetown Rocks, Millstream Arts Festival, and La Jam are already slated to be in full force and I suspect Rock for Alzheimer’s, Octoberfest, Rocktoberfest, will also be back. There is so much to explore in our city. Please check out our website and social media for more information on upcoming events and locations of our parks and trails. Happy spring! Looking forward to seeing you in our parks, on our trails and at our events! Lawn Irrigation Tips As the weather heats up, start to focus on how you use wa- ter outdoors! You might find that you are overwatering. Water usage increases greatly during the summer months as people begin to care for a lawn or garden. May people often waste water because they are unaware of how much water they need to use. Here are a few tips to help you not over- water: • Check your sprinklers and make sure they are spraying at your lawn or garden, not on a sidewalk or driveway • Water early in the morning before it gets too warm. Cooler weather will ensure that the water does not evaporate as quickly • If your sprinkler system is automatic, make sure to ad- just the watering schedule based on weather • Water your lawn about 1 inch per week • Adding a water time to your hose to make sure you are not watering for too long Odd/Even Sprinkling Regulation From May through Septem- ber, the odd/even watering restrictions are in effect. Properties having an address ending with an even number may sprinkle on even numbered days only. Properties hav- ing an address ending with an odd number may sprinkle on odd numbered days only. Weed & Brush Control Weeds and grasses are required to be kept under 10 inches in height. Keep St. Joseph looking great this summer! Campfires City Ordinance requires campfires be limited in size to not more than 3 feet in diameter by 3 feet in height. The fire is to be contained in a metal ring, rock, concrete or other sim- ilar non-combustible material. RV Dump Station The city offers an RV dump station located at the main lift station just east of Millstream Park. There is no charge, but donations are accepted to maintain this service. Event wipes that are labeled as flushable should not be flushed. These products do not breakdown like toilet pa- per and can cause sanitary sewer issues. Pick Up After Your Pets Be a good neighbor, and pick up after your pets. Pet waste can contain harmful bacteria that causes excess algae and weed growth in lakes and rivers.
